For many years I have been involved with the medium and heavy engineering sectors within the Yorkshire area. And, indeed, was company photographer for 17 years, employed within a very large steel making and engineering group. South Yorkshire is particularly renowned for its steel industry and at one time, Sheffield was world leader in the cutlery trade. But with changing technology, this has been replaced by smaller, high quality specialist steel manufacturing. Very large machining and forging facilities, in fact, do remain, producing items for high technology manufacturing, be it nuclear or high tolerance aero engine components or complex castings.
